The meeting included discussions on a proposal to establish a regional center for maritime accident investigations in cooperation between the Suez Canal Authority and the Secretariat of the Arab Sea Ports Federation.
Admiral Rabiee: "The Red Sea region witnesses many positive indicators recently signaling the return of stability to the region"
Admiral Ossama Rabiee, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, stressed, today, the Authority's commitment to bolstering partnership relations and aspects of cooperation with the Arab Sea Ports Federation, especially in the areas of training, as well as the provision of various maritime and logistical services. This came during his Excellency’s speech at the 64th meeting (64) and the 32nd General Assembly of the Board of Directors of the Arab Sea Ports Federation, held in Doha, in the presence of Rear Admiral Essam Badawi, Secretary-General of the Federation, Capt. Abdullah Mohammed Al-Khanji, CEO of Mwani Qatar, Dr. Bahjat Abu Al-Nasr, Director of the Economic Integration Department, Supervisor of the Transport and Tourism Department at the League of Arab States, and a number of Arab executive leaders working within the field of maritime transport.
H.E. has clarified that the SCA adopts an ambitious strategy to optimize its capabilities in the field of maritime and logistical services, and localize maritime industries in its affiliated companies and shipyards, pointing out that the SCA is striving to become open to international and Arab markets to promote the auxiliary marine units it produces.
H.E. has also demonstrated the major developments the SCA is achieving in the field of infrastructure as both parts of the southern sector development project are completed which is considered a qualitative leap that enhances the Suez Canal’s competitiveness.
In addition to that, Adm. Rabiee has touched upon the repercussions of the volatility of the situation in the Red Sea region and their negative impacts; namely the declining rates of traffic through the Suez Canal as well as imports in many Arab states. That is besides the drop in the handling rates of ports operating in the region within the past year. However, H.E. has expressed his hopes for the restoration of a lasting stability in the Red Sea and Bab El-Mandab region in light of the positive indicators the region has witnessed recently.
The meeting witnessed discussing a proposal of establishing a regional center for investigations of maritime incidents in cooperation with the Suez Canal Authority and the Secretariat of the Arab Sea Ports Federation. This shall be executed through the Suez Canal Maritime Training and Simulation Academy which shall conduct the maritime incidents investigations, then submitting the results to the Federation’s Secretariat.
