Ambassador of Tanzania to Cairo: "The Suez Canal is the optimal destination for economic cooperation."
Adm. Ossama Rabiee, Chairman and Managing Director of the Suez Canal Authority, received today the delegation of ambassadors of Southern African Development Community (SADC) to discuss ways of joint cooperation and exchanging expertise in various fields of development. The meeting was held at the SCA's headquarters, Al-Irshad building, in Ismailia.
The delegation consisted of ambassadors of 10 African states including Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Congo, Angola, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Mozambique and Tanzania.
This visit comes in the framework of fruitful cooperation and ceaseless coordination between the SCA and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The visit's aim is getting a closer look at development opportunities in the Canal projects as well as pioneering experiences in the fields of training, developing fish resources, building marine units, maritime services, etc.
At the outset of the meeting, Adm. Rabiee welcomed the delegation of ambassadors of Southern African Development Community (SADC), and expressed his aspirations to extend bridges of joint cooperation with African states in various fields of development.
H.E. explained that the Suez Canal has a unique developmental experience in the Canal cities and extensive expertise within Egypt and outside it, shedding the light in this regard to instances of previous cooperation with sister Arab and African states.
Adm. Rabiee also touched on the SCA's participation in a number of projects abroad; most notably the development and reopening of the Libyan Port of Sirte after 14 years of closure. That is in addition to the agreement with the Namibian Ports Authority to cooperate in the fields of port modelling and technical training.
On his part, H.E. Maj. Gen.Topply M. Lubaya, Ambassador of Tanzania, expressed the delegation's anticipation of getting a closer look at potential aspects of cooperation with the SCA, especially as the SCA is already engaging in cooperation with a number of countries; namely Namibia and Zambia.
H.E., Ambassador Lubaya, also stressed that the SCA is considered the cornerstone of economic development in Egypt, as well as a strategic global waterway, making it the optimal destination for economic cooperation.
After that, the delegation headed to the Suez Canal Aquaculture Company to tour the packing and packaging factory as well as the fish and shrimp farming ponds.
