Crowning the efforts of international marketing in Africa, Adm. Ossama Rabiee, Chairman and Managing Director of the Suez Canal Authority, and Mrs. Nangula Hamunyela, Chairperson of the Namibian Ports Authority, attended the signing ceremony of an Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in fields of mutual interest. The ceremony, held at the SCA's headquarters, Al-Irshad building, in Ismailia, was also attended by Adm. Ashraf Atwa, Deputy Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, a number of SCA board members and Eng. Abdel Hakim Abdel Nasser.
The MoU aims to exchange expertise and promote bilateral cooperation in various fields; most notably maritime construction works, sales and chartering marine units in addition to advanced maritime training through the SCA's maritime training and simulation academies.
Adm. Rabiee stressed the SCA's readiness for fruitful and constructive cooperation with the Namibian Ports Authority in light of the SCA's expansion into projects abroad as well as its efforts to penetrate new markets and achieve further openness to the African continent.
H.E. underscored the SCA's efforts in successfully developing the Port of Sirye in Libya and reopening it after a 14-year closure; making it the first successful project executed abroad with friendly and sisterly states.
The Chairman of the Authority directed that full support be provided and the necessary procedures facilitated to commence actual cooperation on various projects. H.E. Added in this regard that the Authority has an integrated system for providing maritime and logistical services through its affiliated shipyards and companies.
On her part, Mrs. Nangula Hamunyela, Chairperson of the Namibian Ports Authority, expressed her eagerness to cooperate with the Suez Canal Authority in implementing the ambitious development plan for Namibia's ports, which are the largest in West Africa. She emphasized that this cooperation reflects the strength of the relations between Egypt and Namibia and will contribute to bolstering bilateral ties.
She pointed out that the MoU presents a valuable opportunity to explore cooperation opportunities in various fields. She commended the Authority's diverse capabilities and expertise in maritime manufacturing, maritime construction, and training.
The Chairperson of the Namibian Ports Authority noted that the advanced technology and extensive experience of the Suez Canal Authority in various fields will contribute to strengthening and accelerating the desired development efforts in Namibia's ports, thus eliminating the need to rely on foreign expertise and personnel and technology transfer from other continents.
The MoU was signed by Eng. Nashaat Nasr Eldin, Director of the SCA Transit Department, and Mr. Andrew Kanime, CEO of the Namibian Ports Authority.
The visit included seeing the lineup of several different maritime units produced by the shipyards and companies affiliated to the Suez Canal Authority, as well as visiting the Floating Pontoons and Concrete Buoys Factory, affiliated to the Canal Harbor and Great Projects Company, and then visiting the Authority's Maritime Training and Simulation Academy.
