Admiral Ossama Rabiee, Chairman and Managing Director of the Suez Canal Authority, met with a high-level delegation from Siemens, headed by Ms. Margherita Adranga, CEO of Customer Services for Digital Industries at Siemens, accompanied by Mr. Wael Omar, Senior Deputy President for the Digital Industries Sector at Siemens Egypt, and Dr. Fouad Alattar, Senior Deputy President for Services in the Middle East to discuss future cooperation. The meeting, attended by several SCA Board Members, was held at the Authority's Irshad Building in Ismailia Governorate.

The meeting addressed ongoing avenues of cooperation and reviewed the progress of work to modernize and maintain control and operating systems in a number of the Authority's marine units, in addition to the maintenance of tunnel control and operation systems (ITS), including the main control and monitoring systems (SCADA), as well as cooperation in the field of training.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the two sides signed a joint cooperation agreement between the Suez Canal Authority and Siemens Industries to accredit the “Siemens” Lab at the Authority’s Innovation and Excellence Center as an authorized lab to grant training certifications for Siemens programs and products, qualifying technical personnel from within and outside the Authority.

At the outset of the meeting, Admiral Ossama Rabiee welcomed Siemens delegation to the Suez Canal Authority and expressed his aspiration to expand opportunities for joint cooperation in various fields.

Adm. Rabiee stressed that the SCA's Innovation and Excellence Center has succeeded within a short period in entering into impactful partnerships with some of the world's leading entities specialized in technical training; most notably Siemens and Maersk, which promotes the SCA's efforts in developing and qualifying its employees of all different specializations out of its keenness on personal capacity and skill-building as well as raise the efficiency of its human capital.

H.E. highlighted that the partnership with Siemens gives the Innovation and Excellence Center the chance to develop the SCA's technicians and engineers, in addition to providing external training programs that qualify young graduates and meet the demands of the labour market, so that the Center becomes a comprehensive entity that providing training activities.
 
On her part, Ms. Margherita Adragna, CEO of Customer Services for Digital Industries at Siemens, underscored the depth of the long-standing strategic relations with the Suez Canal for over 125 years, which have culminated in joint successes, expressing her anticipation of furthering cooperation with the SCA in the upcoming period.

She emphasized Siemens' readiness to share its experience with the SCA, provide support in capacity-building in technological fields as well as enhance and develop specialized engineering skills.

While Mr. Wael Omar, Senior Deputy President for the Digital Industries Sector at Siemens Egypt, said that the Siemens Lab at the SCA’s Innovation and Excellence Center has successfully passed the accreditation steps to join the list of accredited labs; becoming the sixth in Egypt and only one in the Canal cities.

The Siemens Lab at the SCA’s Innovation and Excellence Center is specifically designed for advanced training in Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), through two training systems aimed at training participants in modern automation techniques. It is also equipped with a full-range of technical equipment; including advanced monitors and high-quality sound systems to ensure delivering the content effectively.

The joint cooperation agreement was signed by Eng. Nashaat Nasr Eldin, SCA's Director of the Communications and Information Systems Dept., and Mr. Wael Omar, representative of Siemens Egypt.

The visit included inspecting the Siemens lab and presenting the SCA's trainers with the certificates of passing their training courses and their accreditation by Siemens for advanced training.
