COO of Maersk Line visits Egypt to meet Egyptian leaders, seeking ways of developing a fruitful cooperation between the two parties

Cairo, November 8th 2018: Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT), a Joint Venture with APM Terminals, the leader at container handling terminals management and logistic services, has expressed its appreciation for the continuous support of the Egyptian political leadership in creating the ideal atmosphere for investment in Egypt. It also praised the outstanding efforts and the recent resolutions of Admiral Mohab Mamish, Chairman of the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, especially Resolution No. 121 on reducing port fees at the East Port Said Port, which in turn benefits the port development in order to play a pivotal role in the commercial activities in the Mediterranean.
That was asserted during the visit of Søren Toft, the Executive Vice President at A.P. Møller - Mærsk A/S and Chief Operating Officer, where he met The Egyptian Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouli, and Admiral Mohab Mamish, Chairman of the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone. Lars Christensen, the CEO of SCCT, and Mr. Hany El-Nady, SCCT Head of Public and Governmental Relations at SCCT, also attended the meeting along with a number of senior governmental officials.

 
Toft said “We thank the Egyptian leadership for their extensive efforts to provide investors in Egypt with all the support they need which encourages many international companies to invest in the Egyptian market. I would like to convey my great appreciation to H.E. Admiral Mohab Mamish in particular for his support to East Port Said Port, and for his recent resolution on reducing the port fees at the port of East Port Said which is expected to be a stepping stone to raise the competitiveness of Egyptian ports.”
He also added "We are keen on pursuing our fruitful cooperation with the Egyptian government in all aspects, which is an example for others to follow in cooperation between governmental entities and large companies in the private sector. This cooperation has led to many achievements for both parties and reinforced the existence of companies of the SCCT’s magnitude which endeavours to develop East Port Said Port and increase the number of vessels it accommodates through offering them the best services.”
Lars Christensen, the CEO of SCCT, said "I sincerely thank H.E. Admiral Mohab Mamish, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, who had a big part in the development of Port Said Port, which has become one of the most important ports east and south of the Mediterranean. This highlights the Egyptian Government’s is commitment to execute its plans of economic reforms.”
He asserted that SCCT will continue to develop East Port Said Port with the tremendous support of SCZone, as well ascontinuing to carry out renewal and replacement processes in various company operations.
Mr. Hany El Nady, SCCT’s Head of Public and Government Relations, said “We value the effective role being exerted by the Egyptian government for fostering the development of East Port Said Port with its strategic location that attracts numerous international companies in the field of transport and logistics east and south of the Mediterranean.”
He added that the success of mutual cooperation between the Egyptian government and SCCT, as well as the first’s advances has led to heightened confidence from foreign investors. He also affirmed that the political leadership in Egypt has lately been able to pass a number of laws, most significantly the Unified Investment Law. Finally, he said “We hope for more resolutions of the same kind to face the intense competition in the region, and we are incredibly proud that East Port Said port is the spotlight now, and is an example to follow for all ports in competition.”
